Lead Us Not into Temptation, But Deliver Us from the Evil One

Lead Us Not into Temptation, But Deliver Us from the Evil One
Week 5, Day 5

In the model prayer Jesus gave us in Matthew chapter 6, after asking for daily bread and forgiveness, He teaches us to pray, Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.
This is a prayer for protection and guidance in the spiritual battles we face every day. Jesus isn't suggesting that God tempts us—James 1:13 makes it clear that God does not tempt anyone. Temptation comes from our own sinful desires, from the world around us, and from Satan himself, whom the Bible calls the evil one or the devil.
When we pray Lead us not into temptation, we're asking God to guide our steps away from situations, people, or circumstances where we know we're weak and likely to fall. It's an acknowledgment that we can't trust our own strength to avoid sin—we need divine direction to steer us clear of danger.
Then we pray, Deliver us from the evil one. This recognizes that there's a real enemy who prowls around like a roaring lion seeking someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8). Satan wants to destroy our faith, our relationships, our witness, and our joy. But God is greater, and He promises to deliver us when we cry out to Him.
So bring your vulnerabilities to God daily. Pray for protection from temptation in areas where you're prone to stumble—anger, lust, pride, worry, whatever it is. Ask Him to lead you in paths of righteousness and to deliver you from the schemes of the evil one. When you pray this way, you're not living in fear; you're living in dependence on a powerful Father who loves to keep His children safe and strong.
Pray with confidence: Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. He hears, and He is faithful to protect and deliver.
