Romans 12:1-2 NIV
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God---this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is---his good, pleasing and perfect will.
God definitely has a will, purpose, and plan for our lives.
Scripture teaches that God cares about the details of our lives. Romans 12:2 says We can know God's will.
We were made for a purpose. All of the experiences of our lives were used to help us fulfill the unique role we have in this world.
Psalm 25:8-14 NIV
Good and upright is the Lord; therefore he instructs sinners in his ways. He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way. All the ways of the Lord are loving and faithful toward those who keep the demands of his covenant. For the sake of your name, Lord, forgive my iniquity, though it is great. Who, then, are those who fear the Lord? He will instruct them in the ways they should choose. They will spend their days in prosperity, and their descendants will inherit the land. The Lord confides in those who fear him; he makes his covenant known to them.
John 10:2-6 NIV
The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger’s voice.” Jesus used this figure of speech, but the Pharisees did not understand what he was telling them.
John 10:27 NIV
My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.
Jesus goes before us. We follow Him voluntarily... He doesn't make us do it.
God speaks when we come to the conclusion that we will do whatever He tells me to do.
God knows how to clearly communicate to us. He will speak to us.
We have to submit to the Shepherd's leading.
We must have a submissive heart.
James 1:5-8 NIV
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.
We must ask God for wisdom.
We also have to trust and believe that He will answer and guide us.
Jeremiah 33:3 NIV
‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’
We must begin to seek Him and listen to Him.
How do you seek Him?
The will of God is in His word. He speaks primarily through His word.
- Surrender to God.
- Seek His face.
- When He gives you enough information, take a step.
God speaks through His word, our thoughts, and our desires. If we are surrendered to Him, He will create in us a desire to do His will.
He also speaks through other people, a peace, and through our circumstances.
